The Story Behind Our Fall Collection: Inspired by Salem
Every year, creating the Fall Collection is one of my favorite parts of the candle-making process.
Fall has always felt magical to me. The cooler temperatures, changing leaves, cozy evenings, and comforting scents create a feeling unlike any other season. But this year’s collection was inspired by something even deeper...a place that has fascinated me for years.....Salem.
As Salem celebrates its 400th anniversary, I found myself drawn not only to its history but also to its atmosphere.
Most people immediately think of the witch trials when they hear the name Salem. While that chapter is certainly part of the town’s story, what has always captured my attention is everything else...the historic homes, cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, maritime heritage, and the feeling that every corner has a story to tell. There’s something incredibly special about a place that has stood the test of time.
I often find myself admiring photos of Salem’s beautiful Federal-style homes, historic neighborhoods, and tree-lined streets. The architecture feels timeless. The town itself feels like a place where history and everyday life exist side by side. And maybe, if I’m being honest, part of what draws me to Salem is the water.
As someone who was born on an island and has always found peace near the ocean, I’ve always felt connected to coastal towns. Salem’s harbor, waterfront, and maritime history add another layer to its charm. There’s something calming about places where the sea is woven into the town’s identity.
Perhaps that’s why Salem feels familiar to me. It combines so many things I love....history, architecture, storytelling, and the coast.
When I began planning this year’s Fall Collection, I wanted to create scents that felt like stepping into Salem during autumn. Not a Halloween attraction. Not a haunted house. A place. A feeling. A moment in time.
I imagined lantern-lit streets glowing against crisp evening air. Historic homes standing proudly after centuries. The scent of fallen leaves drifting through open windows. The warmth of candlelight flickering inside old houses as the days grow shorter.
Each scent was created to tell part of that story.
Some blends capture the warmth of gathering around the hearth after a chilly walk through town. Others evoke the feeling of wandering through historic neighborhoods lined with beautiful homes and vibrant autumn foliage. Certain scents bring to mind old libraries, handwritten letters, weathered wood, and stories passed from one generation to the next.
I wanted this collection to feel nostalgic without feeling dated. Comforting without feeling predictable. Sophisticated while still feeling cozy. More than anything, I wanted each scent to create a sense of place. Because scent has an incredible ability to transport us.
A scent can take us somewhere we’ve never been while simultaneously reminding us of somewhere we’ve always known. That’s what Salem does for me. Even from afar, it sparks my imagination. It reminds me that places carry stories. Homes carry memories. And scent has the power to bring those stories to life in a way few things can.
This collection is a celebration of that idea. It’s inspired by history, architecture, coastal charm, and the timeless beauty of autumn.
It’s inspired by quiet walks, flickering lanterns, weathered books, cozy gatherings, and the feeling of slowing down as the seasons change. Most of all, it’s inspired by the belief that scent can help transform an ordinary moment into something memorable.
As you explore this year’s Autumn Collection, I hope you find a scent that speaks to you. One that reminds you of a favorite season. A cherished memory. A place you’ve visited. Or perhaps a place you hope to visit someday. Because every scent tells a story.
And this fall, our story begins in Salem.
